Introducing the WOBN/SBS Partnership and a New WOBN Category – “Leading the Way: Healthcare Gender Diversity Award”

The push for more women on boards is based on the idea that diversity in leadership can lead to better decision-making, improved corporate governance, and enhanced overall organizational performance.

Women on Boards Network aims to address gender imbalance by raising awareness about the importance of gender diversity in corporate leadership positions, providing resources and support for women seeking board positions, and encouraging companies to adopt policies and practices that promote gender equality in their boardrooms.

Akin, Strathmore Business School, through the Women in Healthcare Leadership project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation seeks to elevate women in leadership positions, specifically in the health value chain in Africa by addressing the challenges and promoting enablers in organizations that affect the rise of women in healthcare to leadership positions.

This partnership between Women on Boards Network and Strathmore Business School will see both institutions collaborating to maximize resources, expertise, and networks to tackle that would be more difficult to navigate individually.

The awards aim to highlight the importance of gender diversity in corporate governance and leadership roles, while also encouraging more women to pursue and succeed in board positions.

Consequently, in this year’s WOBN Awards, Strathmore and WOBN will introduce a new category of awards – “Leading the Way: Healthcare Gender Diversity Award”. The proposed new award shall honor health organizations that have exhibited exemplary performance with regards to gender representation across the senior-level and board-level leadership positions.
