Mary Makokha is the executive director of Rural Education and Economic Enhancement Programme (REEP), an organization that aims in improving the quality of life for marginalised groups in rural communities in Western Kenya.

She speaks out boldly against inheritance of widows and gender-based violence. Through REEP, she supports needy and orphaned children through paying their fees e.g., she has over 230 children who are in the education system at different levels.

Besides, she has Gender balanced emergency response teams of  Women-managed spaces that  accelerate post-disaster recovery for example; she  has a team called male champions in every sub-county to support her cause,she has taken a number of girls to school after being affected ,has helped families resettle after Land clashes,has helped built shelter and offer psycho social education to women and families affected ,has initiatives like paralegals who defend women in court of law as well as  paramedics who assess women exposed to domestic gender based. violence or rape cases for access to justice.

Mary has majorly focused on women, educating and sensitizing them and initiating projects where they take part in.
